CARROT Alarm - Talking Alarm Clock App Reviews

Nice little app

I really like this app a lot. I even find myself thinking "I need to level up so I better wake up before it starts getting mad"

Doesnt go off if your phone is locked

I was really excited for this alarm app, I have always been terrible at waking up. But the alarm doesnt go off if your phone is locked. I followed the instructions to have the app open and not in the background when you lock your phone for the night, but the alarm didnt go off until I unlocked my phone 20 minutes after it was supposed to go off. The support section also says to make sure you have notifications on for the app, but it doesnt show up in the notifications settings section. Hope they fix this.

Doesnt work

Its supposed to function if you enable notifications & sounds if you leave the app running in the foreground but lock the screen. It doesnt. This was according to instructions from the app itself. Didnt happen. All I got were a bunch of silent, progressively insulting notifications and was late for work. So next, I left the phone unlocked with the app running. Unfortunately, I can do Carrots "chores" in a state of near consciousness & once I get her to shut up, Im back to sleep in a matter of seconds. I wish I hadnt wasted my money.

Too unstable

I love carrot apps, but I just cant use an alarm that only works 50% of the time and takes a while to set up every day. Might be due to iOS limitations, but still

Garbage

This app is completely garbage.. It has maybe woken me up once or twice and I have had it for about 5 months. It never goes off even if you have it off Do not Disturb and your volume all the way up. It just leave silent notifications. I have the default alarm on and the Carrot alarm. The default always goes on without a doubt. I just wanted something fun when I wake up and to make me get up, but it just lets you down. Is there a way to get your money back....?

Great app!

Love the app, but it feels like always is missing. Like the rewards idea but seriously some of them should be given by default. Why cant multiple alarms be set?

Great idea... if it worked

After the fourth day in a row of waking up late, Im deleting it. I love the little chores thing- following Carrots orders to make the alarm stop- but for almost an entire week shes failed to go off.

Great idea, doesnt work

While a good idea in theory, I have not gotten this alarm to work properly even when following instructions to keep the app open, keeping my phone off silent, etc. Please fix this or give me my money back. Thanks.

Great idea, but disappointing app.

I think the voice is hilarious, and love the wake up exercises! It truly does get me out of bed and wake me up....when the alarm goes off. Ive only had the app for a week, and have been setting the alarm for every morning, but it has only actually gone off twice. When I finally do get out of bed, Ill see the notifications from the app even though I heard no sound. I leave the app open and volume on as suggested, yet Im still having problems. I love the concept, but I do wish it was more reliable - especially since I had to pay for it.

Needs improvements

Overall I love the CARROT apps, but this one falls short. It always talks loudly whenever you just open the app, which is very annoying. It must be left open, with the phone sound on, to actually wake you up. If you leave the app open but forget to take your phone off silent or forget to turn the volume up, it wont wake you up (it only buzzes if the sound is off). Once you open it, the app turns the sound wayyy up which seams unnecessary. It always says "the time is 12:00" no matter what time of day it is. I love the idea of having to do certain "chores" to shut it off, but it doesnt need to literally speak them. There should be a way to shut the voice off permanently. Reading the chores is enough, plus it ensures that you have to actually open your eyes! I find myself setting a backup alarm every day because I usually have my phone sound off all the time and usually forget to turn it on even if I remember to leave the app open. I really want to like this app but it definitely needs improvements to actually be a reliable alarm.

Terrible Alarm

This alarm never goes off, regardless of situation (locked, unlocked, silent, ringer). This was a waste of my time and money. Do not recommend

No Snooze, No Problem

1/31/17 update: like everyone else, I have noticed a change with Carrots performance. After playing around and realizing I can not shut off my phone once set, she became more reliable. Im still turning my phone off out of habit and Im not sure how comfortable I am with leaving it on all night. I dropped the rating from a 5 to a 4. Here is my original review: Oddly enough, this evil mistress is just what I needed to actually get up with my alarm and stay up!! The volume is independent of the phone, the tasks are easy but cognitive enough that you are awake at the end. Quick overview: she is snarky, evil, and something deep down inside my psyche wants to keep her happy. On the to-do list you can actually make her mad, and I feel horrible when that happens. The list I easy to use and very basic. LOL the alarm has its quirks (phone cant be on silent, has to stay plugged in, no Do Not Disturb mode) but very effective and the main reason I purchased the package. The exercise app is fun, just as snarky, and NOT as easy as you think it would be. I immediately bought the expansion exercises and have not regretted it. The weight tracking in the exercise app is easy to use but brutal if you fluctuate in the slightest. So far, no complaints!!

Get Serious About Waking Up!

Point: to wake up! Goal: waking up! App: wakes you up! Carrot Alarm is going to wake you up. If you dont know how to keep your phone/device in sleep/silent/Do Not Disturb mode, then please research the numerous ways and how-tos that do not interfere with Carrot or any other alarm-type app. The point of an alarm is to wake you up and is therefore, annoying. If you dont want to be annoyed, get rid of your alarm, never wake up and ... Carrot rocks BECAUSE She is annoying, loud, obnoxious and makes you want to smash your phone/device to bits (like an epic fitness trainer). If you dont like the brilliant (Yes, thats correct: they thought this thing through) interaction you are forced to deal with when utilizing Carrot, ... maybe you should just stay in bed.

Really, Really, want to love it more.

I love the sadistic nature of the alarm, the abuse, the sarcasm, being called a meatbag in the morning. Sooo many features done right. But hear are my major issues. 1. Will not go off if your alarm is on silent or vibrate. 2. Even though you have to pay for the app. Most of the features require you to "rank up points" by waking up to unlock very ESSENTIAL AND BASIC features. Like being able to fine tune the wake up time in 5 min intervals, and reoccurring alarms that reset automatically. 3. The big one - this app has to remain open and on top. So if you have trouble falling asleep and like music like me (typically someone who needs an alarm like this has issues involving sleep), then too bad, no music apps will work in the background as this app cancels their audio output. Additionally, if you set this alarm, and check another app - and then forget to put it back on top or fall asleep - it doesnt work. Too bad. I Really Really Really want to love this app. Please unlock the features, allow it to force through silent mode, and allow some way to have music on when falling asleep.

Great but would like...

Awesome alarm clock. However, Id like it to be able to schedule different alarms on different days. I dont want it accidentally going off in a meeting.

The way it wakes me up

...is brilliant!! :) thanx for that app, just like CARROT it is smart, funny and ironic. What else?:)

Awfull...

Awfully great... This app is very funny. But dont use it after a long hard night (especially after a few bottles of alc) otherwise this alarm will turn you nuts...

Best alarm clock ever!!

Gotta love waking to a "Level Up!" ;)

Smart

Very good tool!
